2. What Data We Process
To provide our service, we need to process certain data in real-time. This includes:
- Video and Audio Streams: Your camera and microphone feed are streamed directly to your chat partner. We do not record, view, or store this information on our servers.
- Usernames: The name you provide is used to identify you to your chat partner. If you register an account, this is stored securely in our database.
- Chat Messages: Messages sent in public or anonymous matchmaking lobbies are transmitted in real-time and deleted when you disconnect. However, Direct Messages (DMs) sent to users on your Friends List are securely stored in our database so they can be delivered to offline users.
- IP Addresses: Your IP address is a technical requirement to establish the connection between you, our signaling server, and your partner. It is also processed for moderation purposes, such as in user reports and for enforcing bans.
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Warning: We use WebRTC Peer-to-Peer technology to connect you. This means your video and audio stream directly to your partner's device without passing through our servers. Please be aware that due to the nature of direct P2P connections, your chat partner may be technically able to see your IP address.
3. External Service Providers
To provide our service, we utilize specific third-party tools. These providers may process data as follows:
- Google Fonts: We use Google Fonts to style our website. When you load our page, your browser makes a request to Google's servers to download these font files. Consequently, your IP address is shared with Google to allow for this delivery.
- Stripe (Payments): All Premium subscription payments are securely processed by Stripe. We do not directly collect or store your credit card details. Stripe processes your financial data in accordance with their own Privacy Policy. We only store your resulting Premium status in our database.
- Discord (Moderation): We use Discord as a secure backend tool for our moderation team. If you submit a User Report or Feedback, the data is securely transmitted to a private Discord server accessible only by our administrators.
4. Data Storage and Retention
We actively minimize the data we store:
- Account Data & Friends: If you register, we securely store your email, username, encrypted password, and friends list.
- Direct Messages: DMs sent to registered friends are stored in our database to allow for asynchronous communication.
- Moderation Reports: Data sent via the "Report" feature is retained in our secure moderation logs to allow us to review incidents and take action against bad actors.
- Banned IP Addresses: To enforce bans and keep the community safe, we store a list of banned IP addresses indefinitely.
5. Children's Privacy (Age Restriction)
LearnUnite is strictly for users aged 18 and older.
We do not knowingly collect, process, or store personal data from individuals under the age of 18. This restriction is in place to comply with strict data protection laws regarding minors and to ensure the safety of all participants in an unmoderated live video environment.
6. Cookies and Local Storage
We use minimal data storage on your device:
- Session Cookie/Token: A technically necessary token used solely to authenticate your account and manage your active connection to our servers.
- Local Storage: We use your browser's local storage to remember simple preferences (like accepting this policy) so you are not interrupted by pop-ups on every visit.
None of these are used for advertising, tracking across other sites, or marketing analytics.
